The Epic Games Store keeps up the tradition of giving away free games on a weekly basis, and January 2025 has proved no exception. Each Thursday, starting at 10:00 AM CT, a different free game unlocks that users can claim and then keep in their library forever. This has really been a great way to try out different games without spending one cent.
Current Free Game: Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery
Right now, Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery is free on the Epic Games Store. It’s a very tastefully designed puzzle game, with inspirations from Studio Ghibli in its animation. It first released in 2021 and mostly saw positive reviews for its calming gameplay and warm story. This is a no-brainer for players who love artistic games that have a great emotional story to tell.
Behind the Frame is only free for a little while, however. It’ll stay free right up until Thursday, January 30. On that day, it’ll swap out for another free game.

Upcoming Free Game: Undying
It will be available for free on the Epic Games Store between January 30 and February 6. Undying is a zombie survival game that officially released in 2023 and has received “Mostly Positive” reviews.
In Undying, one plays as Anling, an infected zombie virus carrier, a mother attempting to get her young son, Cody, to safety and teach him skills that could potentially help him survive as she herself slowly becomes an undead. There is exploration, crafting, and dungeon crawling involved in this video game, combined with resource management and tough choice-making that has significant story outcomes.
A unique and emotional experience for fans of zombie survival games, Undying will be free for a whole week, so there’s no reason to miss out on adding it to your library.

Coming next, following the February 6 release of Undying, is the free game announcement courtesy of Epic Games. With the way the store likes to operate and considering the wild divergence between indie darlings and AAA smash hits that so often blast their way through its doors, really anything can happen.
Epic Games Store patrons enjoyed a bevy of free games in 2024, and 2025 looks to be much of the same. A few will go over better than others, but given how well-received Behind the Frame and Undying were, they will almost certainly be remembered as some of the best freebies.

- Head to the store section and find the free game available at that moment.
- Click the game and click “Get”; it will be added to your library forever.
